3M settled trademark Shurtape Technologies

3M recently settled trademark proceedings with Shurtape Technologies of North Carolina and Henkel Consumer Adhesives Inc. (formerly Manco) of Ohio. As a result of this settlement, 3M continues to use the distinctive and federally-registered “Scotch Blue” backing color in its premium line of Scotch Blue Painter’s Tapes. Per the settlement, Shurtape and Henkel may use a substantially lighter or substantially darker shade of blue in their tape backings; they cannot use 3M’s trademarked blue color. In addition, these companies have agreed not to contest the validity of 3M’s trademarked blue color in this product category.
