Wet and Set Wall and Ceiling Repair
There is more than one way to patch a wall, but few are as easy as the
Wet & Set Wall and Ceiling Repair Patch, a new product from Hyde Tools.
Wet & Set patches are flexible sheets of flat material that stick to walls when wet and grip them with a strong polymer adhesion when dry. Once the patches are hardened, they do not budge.
What’s more, they’ll bridge almost any hole or crack without any fillers or backings. They can repair gaps of up to 7 inches in diameter, although the manufacturer recommends overlapping two layers of patch diagonally to fix holes that large. The patches will cover open seams and gaps, doorknob dents, electrical box holes, gouges, indentations and water-damaged areas.
In part because of its flexibility, a Wet & Seal patch adheres equally well to flat, curved, textured and uneven surfaces. It clings to wallboard, plaster and stucco. And it eliminates a whole host of steps: no hole-squaring, no drywall screws, and often only one layer of compound.
Just cut a patch to fit, dip it in warm water, smooth it onto the surface and let it harden. It takes 30 minutes to dry, at most. Then apply a layer of patching or joint compound to the patch and surrounding area. Voila! Hole fixed. A gaping hole in the morning can be a painted surface before nightfall.
Wet & Seal material comes in flat sheets and contractor rolls. The sheets measure 5 inches by 15 inches and come 30 per pack. The rolls are 5 inches wide and 9 feet long, good for covering a long crack, and come 12 per package.
