Muralo Paints and Coatings

Muralo Company, based in Bayonne, New Jersey, is celebrating its 110th anniversary in 2004. Since 1894, Muralo has provided top quality paints and coatings to contractors, designers, dealers and consumers. Over the years, the company has operated plants in the U.S., Australia and South Africa.

“It’s our commitment to the highest quality products and to the needs of customers that has kept us thriving for more than a century,” says Jim Norton, Muralo president. “We’re always looking for new and improved products that can better serve our customers’ needs.”

Norton’s grandfather, Edward Norton, and his father, Ed Norton Jr., purchased Muralo in 1953. Today, Ed Norton Jr. still plays an important role in managing the company and its 300-plus employees, along with nine other family members spanning three generations.

In 1926, Muralo pioneered the first powdered and ready-mixed patch and repair compounds, including the Spackle brand. In 1955, the company introduced the first latex house paint to contractors and consumers. A recent innovation is Ultra Ceramic Matte interior paint, which contains ceramic microspheres that shield walls from stains.

In 2002, Muralo acquired the Graham Paint and Varnish Company, located in Chicago. Another division is Elder & Jenks, the oldest continuously operating brush and roller maker in the U.S. (since 1793). To learn more about Muralo, visit the Muralo Web site.
