Majestic Blue Shimmer Wall Finish
Here, the Kelly S. King Academy shares a variation of a finish taught in its popular class “Mastering Architectural and Designer Wall Finishes.”
by Kelly S. King, Kelly S. King Academy of Faux Painting and Decorative Finishing
involves layers of color with a clear transparent troweled medium. Many troweled textures are generally opaque or translucent, neither of which allow light to completely penetrate. A texture that holds body and is transparent will allow light to penetrate the layers and reflect off of the underlying base coat, giving an incredible depth of field not found in many other finishes. The transparent texture is a clear acrylic wax-like material that is applied in thin or sheer layers. You can tint the transparent texture in different colors for each layer using special transparent colorants, metallic paints or metallic glazes, creating endless layered wax-like effects.
