USG Paint Specifications For Gypsum Board Released
A free publication available from USG Corporation incorporates a new set of guidelines adopted by the Drywall Finishing Council for specifying and applying paint over gypsum board.
Called Recommended Levels of Paint Finish Over Gypsum Board, the pamphlet offers a glossary of common terminology and explains the specific differences between finishes ranging from Level 0 through Level 5. It also includes general tips and a list of additional resources.
The document is ideal for drywall and painting contractors, architects, builders, building owners, specifiers, general contractors and other construction professionals.
“This pamphlet details the best means available for achieving consistent, high-quality paint finishes on gypsum board, including USG’s next generation of SHEETROCK Brand Gypsum Panels, “said Van Perrine, director of marketing, Formulated Products, United States Gypsum Company. “The new guidelines will significantly help in defining and achieving the intended final appearance of a painted gypsum board surface.”
The intent of the new specifications is threefold:
• Assist specification writers, architects, contractors and building owners to more precisely describe the final paint finish for walls and ceilings.
• Encourage competitive bidding of suitably painted surfaces.
• Enhance the appearance of the final decorated surface.
