A beacon of hope for weathered masonry
When the Maine Historic Preservation Commission needed a strong, weather-resistant coating for the historic Nash Island Light, it turned to Silin Masonry Paint. The silica-based coating was designed for the restoration and maintenance of historic masonry structures. Two full coatings of the paint were applied to the lighthouse in summer 2004, and to date there have been no signs of wear.
The caretakers had previously followed a government code book for lighthouse restoration, which called for three coats of a lime/mortar wash. But harsh conditions had scoured away those layers within two years.
