International Paint Interplus Low-VOC Paint

No need to be abrasive
International Paint LLC, an Akzo Nobel company, has introduced Interplus 634, a biodegradable, low-VOC paint disbonder designed as an alternative to traditional surface preparation techniques such as abrasive grit blasting or high-pressure hydroblasting.

Interplus 634 is especially effective on hard-to-remove coatings such as polyurethanes, alkyds, acrylics and water-borne coatings, but does not contain any ozone-depleting components or methylene chloride, a possible carcinogen. The pale blue water-based, single-component gel can be applied with an airless sprayer, brush or roller at a thickness of 20 mils. The gel is then allowed to saturate the coating. Unlike removers that "eat away" at the coating beneath, Interplus 634 seeks the weakest bond between the paint and metal substrate and creates an oxygen reaction that causes the paint to "bubble up." The paint can then be peeled off in sheets by hand or rinsed away with a low-pressure wash.
