Elder and Jenks Award Presentation

Elder and Jenks
Supplies Paint Brushes
to NASA Shuttle

Quality brushes boost rocket manufacturing
ATK Thiokol Inc., a firm that supplies booster rockets to the NASA space shuttle program, made an award presentation to the staff of Elder & Jenks, which supplies paintbrushes that play a critical role in the construction of rockets.

Jeff Champneys of ATK Thiokol gave the staff an overview of NASA's shuttle program and how Elder & Jenks (a division of the Muralo Company) fits into the overall program.

Part of the reason for the lecture was to show workers the importance of quality control, communication, and other factors concerning the manufacturing of the brushes to the safety and success of the shuttle launch.

The NASA program uses 12 types of Elder & Jenks brushes in the manufacture of a booster rocket engine. Some of the brushes are used to apply materials, while others help clean. Other critical uses involve the application of adhesives and cleaning of propellant.
