Sherwin-Williams polyurethane semi-transparent stains, Wood Stains

This month PaintPRO recognizes the WoodScapes™ brand of Sherwin-Williams polyurethane semi-transparent stains.

Here in the Sierra mountain resort town of Arnold CA, home to the headquarters of PaintPRO magazine, houses with natural wood siding provide a beautiful and subtle focal point among the tall pines. At this 4000 foot elevation wind, rain, snow and hot summer days can have devastating effects on natural redwood or cedar siding that is not cared for properly.

Two years ago while PaintPRO was still in its formative stages, we treated a home in Arnold with the WoodScapes Semi-Transparent Wood Stain. Because this home presented severely weathered T1-11 plywood siding and cedar lap siding, WoodScapes provided excellent abilities for penetrating and coating these substrates. The result was excellent color consistency and restoration of the sun damaged surfaces.

WoodScapes offers many of the characteristics of its alkyd based counterparts but does not drip and run as easily when applied. In addition, WoodScapes is tough. Over these past two years WoodScapes has held up extremely well to the rigorous mountain environments of Arnold: a dry mountain climate but one that offers any coating the challenges of resisting mildew and freeze/ thaw cycles.
